Green office is a management philosophy which allows to reduce organization’s negative impact on environment through minimizing recourses use, energy consumption and waste generating.
Sustainable development – a development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

How can we reduce the negative impact of human beings on environment?
“This is the task for authorities” – you might say.
“This is the task for everyone” – we will answer.

In National university of “Kyiv-Mohyla academy” (NaUKMA) we decided to start from ourselves. Universities always played an important role in bringing fundamental changes to society. Proclaiming environmental priorities and their implementation is a widely spread practice among world’s higher education institutions, however we have not had any cases of this kind in Ukraine yet.
“Promoting green office concept among Ukrainian institutions” project is aimed at incorporating basic principles of sustainable development into Kyiv-Mohyla academy Strategy and green office concept into its day-to-day operation. Its overall mission is promoting this management philosophy among other Ukrainian institutions. This project received the financial support from British Council in a form of grant on a period from September 2006 till June 2007.
“Promoting green office concept among Ukrainian institutions” project extends the initiative to move towards reducing the University’s negative impact on environment started by students and faculty of Department of Ecology, the brightest illustration for which was waste separation project launched in 2005.

Project tasks:

Incorporate green office concept into NaUKMA’s Strategic Development Plan.
Develop and publish recommendations for green office concept implementation into organizations’ day-to-day operations.
Conduct specific research to demonstrate advantages of applying green office concept in an organization.
Encourage other organizations to join the initiative through publications in media, professional mailing listsand forums, seminars, web page.
Reconstruct a seminar room in NaUKMA to serve as a model for illustrating green office concept in action.

Creating an image of NationalUniversity of “Kyiv-Mohyla academy” as a pioneer and leader among Ukrainian educational institutions in the field of introducing sustainable practices to take care of environment and give chance to future generations.
Raising students’ and faculty’s awareness on sustainability issues and ways to deal with them which is a contribution to overall cultural progress of the University
Reducing organization’s expenses through optimizing its resource flows (water, energy, paper, etc.)
